Abstract

This paper critically evaluates the pedagogical execution of Singapore’s Seniors Go Digital initiative, focusing on one-to-one coaching delivered at Ang Mo Kio GRC (Cheng San Ward). Grounded in Pea's (1993) Social Distribution of Cognition and Findsen & Formosa's (2011) Geragogy framework, the analysis examines how material scaffolding—specifically the policy mandating seniors' use of their own smartphones—and personalized facilitation drive learning outcomes across cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. The findings indicate that while distributed cognition and geragogical principles effectively build psychomotor fluency and alleviate technology anxiety, unverified cognitive internalisation and structural exclusions remain critical limitations. Additionally, the study identifies emergent unintended consequences, including metacognitive awareness and identity transformation as digital citizens, juxtaposed against device-dependency, displaced scam anxiety, and equipment-based exclusion. The paper concludes by synthesising these theoretical perspectives into a reflective teaching philosophy centered on learner agency, human dignity, and critical instructional evaluation.
